Baseball & Softball Wrap-up

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Both Baseball and Softball took the relative short trip down to Columbia, South Carolina for the Post-Season and returned to Raleigh with a combined 2-4 record. Both teams lost their first game, won their first elimination game and lost the next to the same team they lost to in the first game.

Softball
The Pack sent the Ace Abby Sims to the circle in the first game looking to take advantage of their #15 National Seed. The Gamecocks however were the ones to take advantage of being a host and upset the Pack 5-2. The Pack then moved to the losers bracket where they were able to get a solid performance from Sims and end Penn State’s season 1-0. The Pack then fell again to the Gamecocks 4-3 to complete the post-season disappointment. Between the ACC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament the Pack went 1-4, quite the disappointment for a team that finished .5 game behind Virginia Tech for the ACC Regular Season and had such high expectations heading into the season.

Walk Off!!!!!!!!

Friday, May 18th, 2007

It was a nice night for baseball at the Doak tonight. The Pack was going for a second straight against #14 Clemson and early on it looked like a pitchers duel. The Wolfpack starter Eric Surkamp started strong striking out the side in the first inning on 11 pitches. Clemson got on the board first with two runs in the fourth but Mike Roskopf hit a two run homer in the bottom half to tie the game at 2. Tommy Foschi got into the long ball act with a solo shot over the left filed wall. Clemson also had a two run homer and the game was tied going into the bottom of the ninth, but not for long. Dallas Polk hit a walk off home run on the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth inning giving the Pack a 6-5 win. It was an exciting game and a very nice crowd. The Wolfpack goes for the sweep tomorrow at 1 pm.

A quick note about mens tennis. You can catch the elite eight match against Baylor live on the computer by following the link on gopack.com at 9 am. Good luck to the Pack and let’s keep this thing rolling.

Pack Baseball

The baseball team looked, well sounded since I wasn’t able to watch, well this past weekend against #3 Virginia. The Pack was able to come away with 2 wins to help keep a solid hold in the race for the tournament. The ACC does the baseball tournament a little different than the other sports. The top 2 teams from each division get in, and then the top 4 remaining teams, no matter the division gets in. From looking at the standings right now, with one series left for the Pack, we are sitting in the 6th spot, just ahead of Miami.

I have found a site for the Pack baseball fans. Packbaseball.com has a weekend wrap up of the games, very good pictures, stats, as well as former players who are playing professional baseball. A great site that will probably hold most answers to any question relating to NC State Baseball.

Don’t forget there is a game today against UNC-Asheville and the Pack wraps up the regular season this weekend with a Thursday, Friday, Saturday series against #15 Clemson.
