Wolfpack Falls Just Short

Monday, March 12th, 2007

In the ACC Championship Game on Sunday afternoon the Wolfpack lost to chapel hill 89-80. The Pack did not back down at any time and was very much in the game. After getting down by 16 points in the second half, we cut the lead to 1 with less than 5 minutes left in the game. We had two great chances to take the lead but the shots did not fall. With under two minutes left in the game it was a one possession game but once again we missed a shot and chapel hill had their free throws. In fact they went 23-24 from the foul line for the game. ty lawson then proceeded to show his true nature with a CLASSLESS dunk with 0.8 seconds left in the game.

Looking back at the whole weekend it was a great success. We battled hard for four days and took down some of the top teams in the conference. Pretty good for a team that was picked last in conference in the preseason. We had Brandon Costner, who got robbed on the tournament MVP award, put up 90 point in four games including 28 in the final. We had Engin Atsur playing in his last ACC tournament gut the last game and a half on one leg after re-injuring his hamstring. Fells and McCauley stepped up and Gavin Grant was solid the whole weekend. I am pretty sure that it would be impossible to find a NC State fans anywhere who was disappointed in the Wolfpack performance this weekend. Well Done Wolfpack!!!

Pack Moves Past Hokies

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

For the third time in three days, the Wolfpack as advanced in the ACC tournament! On semifinal Saturday the Pack took on the Virginia Tech Hokies and emerged with the 72-64 victory. Unlike the Virginia game last night, the Pack got out to a lead early in the first half. A Dennis Horner three late in the half put the Pack up 10. However, VT made a couple of baskets in the final minute of the half and cut the Wolfpack lead to 31-25 at halftime. A scary moment for all Wolfpack fans came in the first half when Engin Atsur re-injured this hamstring that kept him out of lots of games this season. He got it stretched out and came back into the game a few minutes later but he was not quite himself. He fought hard and managed to play most of the rest of the game however he only scored 3 points and had three assists. After the game he said that noting would keep him out of the final tomorrow.

Wolfpack Shoots its Way to Saturday

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

The Wolfpack has done it again. For the second straight night the Pack defeated a better seeded team and moved on in the ACC tournament. Tonights opponent was the second seeded and regular season co-champion Virginia Cavilers. Early in the game the Wolfpack looked like a team who had played an overtime game the night before as Virginia jumped out to a 8-0 lead. The Pack battled back and took a 19-16 lead with an Engin Atsur three points. Virginia responded with a big run and built up a 14 point halftime lead at 40-26. However, the second half was a completely different story.
