Pack Beats Pirates

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

The game against ectc tonight did not go the was Coach Sidney Lowe drew it up. However, in the end the Pack got what it came for, its 8th win of the season. The start of the game seemed to pick up right where the Cincinnati game left off. We did not blog about the Cincinnati game because of the holidays, but most of y’all know we had 32 turnovers and lost by 9. Anyway, early on the Pack was VERY sloppy turning over the basketball 11 times in the first half. Add to that some poor perimeter defense and the Wolfpack was down by as many as 15. A late rally in the first half got the deficient down to 7 at the break.

The second half saw a change at point guard with Courtney Fells taking the ball and have some success. We had only two turnovers in the second half and seemed to get better shots against the 2-3 zone of ectc. It was tight late but we hit some big shots and free throws and escaped with a 64-57 victory.

Once again we only played six players because of Engin’s groin and Trevor’s flu. Nieman only played 10 minutes with everybody else getting 35 or more. Here is a full box score for the game. The Pack takes the court again on Saturday against UNC-Wilmington.

Mr. Wuf’s Travels: Day 6

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

I know I didn’t post yesterday but that was because we didn’t do anything. Today however is a different story! The snow continued to fall most of the day and the temperature never got above 25 or so which means the snow that fell, stayed!

This afternoon I finally got some of the Olympic experience, the Biathlon! We went to Verizon Sports Complex here in Lake Placid where the athletes competed during the ‘80 Olympics and got to shoot on the same range they did. Biathlon is a Winter Sport where skiers ski to a range, take 5 shots with a 22 caliber rifle from 50 meters, then ski some more to another range for 5 more shots before skiing to the end. For every miss the skiers either ski penalty loops or add time to their overall time.

Don’t worry, I did get a couple of pictures of me at the range and will be posting them soon. Tomorrow I will be venturing over to Whiteface Mountain to tackle the slopes that the Olympians once raced down. Even though Chris is an experienced skier this will be my first time to the slopes.

And don’t forget, the Pack take on the Pirates of East Carolina tonight at 7 in the RBC Center!

Go Pack!

ECU Preview

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

Not much to preview for this game. The Pirates are struggling this year as they have in the past, but they are an opponent and I do have time to do research to see what they are made up of.

The Pirates come in with a 4-6 record and on a 5 game skid including a 19point loss last Saturday to Winthrop(9-3). They averaging 54 points per game while giving up 53 points per game. Through 10 games Darrell Jenkins, a Junior from Marietta, Ga. comes in as the leading scorer with just 12.8 points per game and 33 mins. The Pack should try to work the ball around away from John Fields a Freshman from Fayettville’s Jack Britt who comes in averaging just over 3 blocks per game.
