Baseball & Softball Wrap-up

Both Baseball and Softball took the relative short trip down to Columbia, South Carolina for the Post-Season and returned to Raleigh with a combined 2-4 record. Both teams lost their first game, won their first elimination game and lost the next to the same team they lost to in the first game.

Softball
The Pack sent the Ace Abby Sims to the circle in the first game looking to take advantage of their #15 National Seed. The Gamecocks however were the ones to take advantage of being a host and upset the Pack 5-2. The Pack then moved to the losers bracket where they were able to get a solid performance from Sims and end Penn State’s season 1-0. The Pack then fell again to the Gamecocks 4-3 to complete the post-season disappointment. Between the ACC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament the Pack went 1-4, quite the disappointment for a team that finished .5 game behind Virginia Tech for the ACC Regular Season and had such high expectations heading into the season.

Baseball
The Pack entered the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament without the services of Andrew Brackman who is still nursing an elbow injury. The Pack open the weekend against the 3rd Seeded Charlotte 49ers and lost 6-3. They then took on Wofford and was able to hang on for a 10-6 victory to wait on the loser of the USC, UNC-C. Charlotte was then able to some how muster up the strength and put 7 runs up in the 2nd inning and finish the Pack’s season with a final score of 12-10. Again a very disappointing post season for the Pack, going 2-4 in the ACC and NCAA Tournaments. This team had very high expectations coming in, this was suppose to be the team that had the unhittable pitching staff and a decent offense to propel them far. Now we look to the MLB Draft to see how much of this team will remain. It is almost certain we will not see Andrew Brackman in the Red and White next season, but with his recent injury will he chose to stay? I guess it’s wishful thinking….

The baseball and softball teams may not have finished the post season as well as we would have all liked, but both teams still were able to accomplish great things in the past season. Can’t wait till next year!
