What a Night!!! (Women’s Edition)

What a night for the Wolfpack Women!!! In the biggest game of the year, for many reasons, the Lady Pack came out firing and hung on for a 72-65 victory against #2 unc-ch in Reynolds Coliseum. First of all it was the last home game of the year. Six players played their last game in Reynolds tonight and they had a big impact on the game. Add to the energy of Senior Night the fact that we were playing #2 unc-ch and it becomes a huge game. And that is not all. Tonight it was announced that the court at Reynolds Coliseum will forever be known as Kay Yow Court. A very appropriate honor to someone who has done so much for the womens basketball program, NC State University, and breast cancer awareness. Now to the game:

The Wolfpack came out firing early in the game and jumped on the tar heels. The first half saw some very good shooting and defense from the ladies. The numbers back that up with the Pack shooting 54.5% from the field and the heels only 29.4%. The lead got up as many as 26 in the first half and the building was hopping! The Pack took a 19 point lead into halftime, but the game tightened up during the second half. We fought some foul trouble with Gillian Goring fouling out with lots of time on the clock. The lead got down to 2 with 2 minutes left but some clutch plays down the stretch sealed the emotional victory for the Wolfpack. The five starters for the Pack all scored in double figures lead by 16 from Keisha Brown. Marquetta Dickens added 15 while Ashley Key had 12. Sasha Reaves and Gillian Goring had 11 and 10 respectively. One other thing I would like to point out is that NC State never trailed in the game. Here is the link to the gopack article with pictures and a box score. Our pictures from the game will be up in the photo gallery soon!

We here at Pack on the Prowl what to say thank you to Coach Yow, the entire staff, and all the players for a VERY special night. I think that Coach Yow said it bets herself by saying “This has been a tough season. But I have gone from the lows to the high. I can’t say what it all means to me.” Tonight was a definite high.

What a night indeed!!!
